A Child Care Fee Subsidy is intended to help families with the high cost of child care. It is available to families living in Lanark County who financially qualify and are determined to be eligible.

The amount of the subsidy provided to families is determined through the use of an “Income Test”. The calculations are based on Line 236 of the most recent Federal Notice of Assessment for each parent.

If you are not sure whether you qualify for a Child Care Fee Subsidy, you may also want to explore the Child Care Fee Calculator to find out approximately how much your monthly parental contribution would be towards your child care costs.

You may qualify for a Child Care Fee Subsidy if you:

  • Live in the Lanark County.
  • Work, or go to school during the hours when your child would be in a child care program.
  • Have a financial need, as determined by the most recent Notice of Assessment.
  • You may also qualify for a Child Care Fee Subsidy if you or the child has special needs.

To apply for a Child Care Fee Subsidy, you must file an income tax return as the information shown on Line 236 of your most recent Notice of Assessment. You may qualify financially for a Child Care Fee Subsidy if your family’s parental contribution towards your child care costs does not exceed the actual cost of child care.

Use the following Child Care Fee Subsidy Calculator to determine how much you will pay for child care.

If your financial situation has changed since the previous tax year, you may qualify for a fee reduction. You must provide verification that your adjusted gross income for this calendar year will be at least 20 per cent less than the most recent tax year.

Important: You are responsible for finding a subsidized child care space for your child within Lanark County. This space must be through a licensed provider either home or centre based. Please visit our Licensed Child Care Providers section for a list of licensed care in Lanark County.

We periodically do eligibility review for those that are on the list and you must be able to provide the following information upon request.

  1. Notice of Assessment from the most current year
  2. Proof of Residency
  3. Current work/ School Schedule
  4. Letter from Employer/School to verify employment/enrollment
  5. Custody agreements, Court orders, etc.

To request your Federal Notice of Assessment, please call: 1-800-959-8281, and press * to get a live voice and request an “Option C print-out”.

If you are self-employed, you must provide:

  • A copy of your T1 General (Income Tax and Benefit Return)
  • A copy of your business registration, if applicable

If you are in receipt of Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), and your partner/spouse is not a person with a disability, you must provide verification of the reason for child care.

If you and/or your child have special needs, please advise your Subsidy Coordinator and a City of Ottawa medical form will be given to you for completion.

You must pay for your monthly parental contribution. The fee is paid directly to the child care agency, and not to the Child Care Fee Subsidy unit.

You must report all changes in your personal and financial situation.

You must advise your Subsidy Coordinator of any changes to the following:

  • Address change and phone number
  • E-mail address
  • Marital status
  • Change in activity (recognized need/reason for child care)
  • Birth of new children/parental leave
  • Changes in employment
  • Change in income
  • Closure of Ontario Works / Ontario Disability Support Program File
  • Child custody and access

Failure to report changes may result in the termination of your subsidy, and may also result in an overpayment.
