The Township of Montague is situated on the southeast corner of LanarkCounty and covers 283.22 square kilometres. The municipality is bordered on the south side by scenic RideauRiver and extends west from the City off Ottawa to the Town of Smiths Falls.
The main settlement is the hamlet of Numogate, followed by the hamlets of Nolan's Corners, Rosedale and Kilmarnock (Kilnarne). The township is a bedroom community for SmithsFalls, as well as for nearby Ottawa.
According to the 1996 Census, the population of MontagueTownship is 3,802, having increased by 5% since 1991.
The municipality is easily accessible by the county road system. Highway 15 and County Road 4 bisect the municipality, and link up with County Roads 2, 23, and 43.
A major CN Rail spur bisects the muncipality.
A small airport exists near the hamlet of Rosedale.
Three Rideau waterway lockstations are accessible in MontagueTownship and the north bank of the RideauRiver is an ideal day-trip destination for tourists and residents alike.
