SUMMARY:Expressions of Art 2026: Meet the Artists Behind the Art
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]West Carleton Arts Society’s signature juried exhibition returns to Carp Saturday October 3 (8 am to 4 pm) and Sunday October 4 (10 am to 4 pm). You will find our artists at the Agricultural Hall at the CARP Fairgrounds\, 3790 Carp Road\, Carp. The exhibition will feature more than 30 local artists working in a wide range of media\, styles and subject matter. The result is an exhibition that offers something for many different tastes and interests. Artworks will be available in a range of sizes and formats\, including large\, medium and small original works\, prints and art cards. \nIn a world where almost anything can be purchased with the click of a button\, Expressions of Art offers something very different: the opportunity to meet the artist who created the work. Visitors are encouraged to take their time\, look closely at the work and talk with the people who created it. Ask about the inspiration behind a painting. Find out how a photograph was made. Learn why an artist chose a particular material or technique. These conversations can add another dimension to the experience of seeing art. A finished painting\, photograph or sculpture tells one story\, but hearing an artist talk about the idea\, experience or creative process behind the work can reveal another. That personal connection is at the heart of Expressions of Art 2026.\nMore than 30 members of the West Carleton Arts Society will participate in this year’s exhibition\, bringing together artists who have exhibited in Expressions of Art in the past\, as well as those appearing in the show for the first time.\nAmong the artists making their Expressions of Art debut this year is Elaf Selim\, whose dreamlike paintings explore femininity\, nature\, light and the quiet language of the soul. Using oil paint and collage papers imprinted with plants from her garden\, Elaf creates soft\, intimate works that invite the viewer to pause. Her intention is simple and deeply personal: to create “a resting place\, an intimate sanctuary and a refuge in a fast-paced world.”\nAmong the veterans of the show is Anne Heather Moore\, a local Carp artist and member of the West Carleton Arts Society. Working primarily in acrylics\, she creates landscapes\, streetscapes and figurative art that explores colour\, movement and light\, often inspired by the changing seasons and landscapes of rural Ontario. Anne has a special connection to Expressions of Art\, having previously served as a coordinator for the show. Her involvement reflects the continuing contribution of artists and volunteers who have helped shape the exhibition over the years.\nTogether\, these artists are part of what makes Expressions of Art more than an exhibition.
