SUMMARY:Music at MERA: Terra Spencer
DESCRIPTION:A very first impression of Terra Spencer’s music is one of comfortable melody sung confidently\, accompanied by deft fingerstyle guitar or piano. But after the first verse you are wishing you paid more attention. There are stories unfolding here in this music. Terra has been playing instruments from a young age\, but her music career is barely a decade old. This follows a stint as a small town funeral director\, an occupation with a unique window into a community of stories. Wherever her stories come from\, the styles and subjects of Terra’s compositions cast a surprisingly wide net\, quirky\, poignant\, observant\, fascinating. On stage Terra brings easy gentle humor and spontaneous conversation that connects her music together to create a thoughtful\, intimate show. \nThe caliber of Terra’s songwriting has attracted collaborations with such musicians as David Gunning\, David Francey and Ben Caplan. Each of Terra’s 4 strong albums have added to her growing reputation as a quality musician and songwriter. Terra’s latest album ‘Sunset’ was named the 2024 Penguin Eggs Roots Music Canada Critics’ Choice Album of the Year (alongside Julian Taylor’s ‘Pathways’) and Music Nova Scotia Folk/Roots Recording of the Year\, and garnered her ECMA and Canadian Folk Music Award nominations for Solo Artist and English Songwriter of the Year. You may not have heard Terra Spencer before\, but once you do\, you will not soon forget her music. \nFor more information and videos visit https://meraschoolhouse.org/2026-terra-spencer/

SUMMARY:Music at MERA: Kellylee Evans
DESCRIPTION:It has been almost 20 years since Kellylee Evan released her debut album “Fight or Flight?”\, nominated in for a 2007 Juno award. It was immediately apparent that here was a vocalist with the gorgeous voice and musical intelligence possessed by only an elite group of singer/songwriters. Equally comfortable with jazz\, soul\, pop\, and hip-hop\, Kellylee has the ability to deliver each live performance with a visceral energy that brings spellbound audiences to their feet. \nAfter years of grueling international touring\, 6 albums and multiple awards\, all the while homeschooling her three children\, Kellylee suffered a life altering lightning strike in 2013\, and subsequent concussions in 2015 and 2022. Since 2017 Kellylee has focused on her recovery\, cautiously returning to making and sharing her music\, as well as speaking publicly about her personal journey and sharing her inspiring message of self-care and finding one’s own superpowers. \nHer remarkable talent has since been matched by her positive resilience\, producing 3 more recordings and continuing to bring joy through live performance. Kellylee enjoys performing for audiences of all ages. MERA extends a special welcome to families and youth to join us for this concert. \nFor more information and videos visit https://meraschoolhouse.org/2026-kellylee-evans/

SUMMARY:Music at MERA: Maggie's Wake
DESCRIPTION:Maggie’s Wake is the inspired collaboration of Tara Dunphy (The Rizdales\, Luther Wright and the Wrongs)\, on lead vocals\, fiddle\, tin whistle and flute and Lindsay Schindler (Rant Maggie Rant\, Trent Severn)\, on fiddle and vocals\, backed up by Andrew Kosty on bass and Ken Palmer on guitar. \nAlthough recently formed\, this is a seasoned quartet with strong original compositions that have the story lines\, vocal harmonies and Celtic arrangements rooted in a traditional folk idiom\, but played with a contemporary freedom that hints at jazz\, Americana\, and classic country. With a busy recording and concert schedule\, Maggie’s Wake have been rapidly gathering audience and critical acclaim that recently resulted in a 2025 Canadian Folk Music Award for Best New/Emerging Artist for their self-titled debut album\, Maggie’s Wake. \nPrepare yourself for an afternoon of meaningful stories set to beautiful melodies\, rich vocal harmonies and wicked fiddle arrangements played with a joyful energy. \nFor more information and videos visit https://meraschoolhouse.org/2026-maggies-wake/

SUMMARY:Meet the Artists at MERA: Potters\, Weavers\, and Quilters
DESCRIPTION:Meet the Artist at MERA March 8th\nMERA’s Potters\, Weavers and Quilters \nWith great excitement\, MERA’s pottery\, weaving and quilting groups come together to display their work. MERA’s March art exhibition will honor these groups who continue the tradition of craft and the joy of making things. We invite you to the show opening at our Meet the Artist Event in Dean Hall\, Sunday March 8th from 2 pm to 4 pm. \nAn exhibition of pots\, weaving and quilts combines the formative crafts of MERA’s formation as a community hub for creative arts\, and\, more generally\, in the deeply human art of self expression. These crafts turn quotidian items into works of interest\, colour and beauty. MERA initially collected together the heritage crafts of weaving\, quilt making and pottery stitching them into the texture of this community. All three creative ventures continue to thrive here. Welcome to this exhibition of the community’s work. \nYou can view the exhibit for the entire month March. In fact\, why not swing by during MERA’s Saturday Café from 10 am to 2 pm? To arrange to see the exhibition at other times\, please contact Tim Booth at timothybooth9@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Music at MERA: Sarah Hagen
DESCRIPTION:An exceptional classical pianist\, collaborator\, visual artist\, comedian\, Sarah Hagen is a unique musician on a mission to demystify classical music with a performance style all her own\, perhaps inspired as much by Victor Borge as Glenn Gould. \nGrowing up on Vancouver Island\, Sarah took to the piano at an early age and studied widely across Canada. Her busy professional career in North America and Europe as soloist and collaborator has yielded 4 albums and numerous awards. Sarah’s most recent album J.S. Bach: Goldberg Variations\, has been heralded by Whole Note Magazine as “something to absolutely die for” and won two 2022 Music PEI awards for Instrumental Recording of the Year and Album Art of the Year. \nSarah’s live performances invite audiences into her world of stories and music by presenting a variety of programs such as the Goldberg Variations (her own acclaimed interpretation)\, Wonder Women! (forgotten women composers) and “Perk up\, Pianist!”(the trials and joys of a touring musician). \nAt the MERA Schoolhouse on February 15\, the day after Valentine’s Day\, Sarah will present her most recent program: “Lovesick!”\, a concert exploring romance and heartbreak in classical music. Through storytelling and music by Satie\, Bach\, Piazzolla and others\, Sarah delves into the love stories (good and bad!) of some of her favourite composers. \nFor more information and videos visit https://meraschoolhouse.org/2026-sarah-hagen/

SUMMARY:Music at MERA: Amanda Rheaume
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nAmanda Rheaume introduces herself as a Citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario whose Red River roots run deep\, interwoven with Anishinaabe relatives from Lac Seul and mixed settler relations. In her music\, songs of resistance and resilience travel centuries. Rheaume has grown to be a chronicler of stories and people whose acts cascade through time and space\, from the 18th century Red River Settlement to her own doorstep. With curiosity and empathy\, Rheaume has become a bearer of history\, unearthing and preserving Métis stories in song. In her gutsy guitar-driven style\, punctuated with lively Métis fiddle\, Rheaume’s heartland rock is built to last\, resolute in rhythm and unswerving in purpose. \nPurchase Tickets[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
