Active Kids, Bright Futures

Active Kids, Bright Futures helps reduce financial barriers so that children and youth in Lanark County can participate in recreation, arts, cultural, educational, leadership, and skill-building activities.

Taking part in community activities gives children and youth opportunities to build confidence, develop new skills, stay active, make meaningful connections, and experience a sense of belonging. The program provides financial assistance to eligible families, helping children and youth access structured programs that support their healthy development and well-being.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for Active Kids, Bright Futures:

  • The applicant must be a parent, caregiver, or legal guardian.
  • The child or youth must be 17 years of age or younger at the time of application.
  • The child or youth and their family must reside in Lanark County.
  • The family must demonstrate financial need.
  • The activity must be a structured program delivered by a recognized organization or provider.
  • Applications must include all required documentation to support eligibility and payment.

What Activities Are Covered?
Funding may be available for approved activities that support recreation, arts, culture, education, leadership, and skill development.

Sports and Recreation

  • Baseball
  • Soccer
  • Swimming lessons
  • Gymnastics
  • Martial arts
  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
  • Tennis
  • Golf
  • Skiing
  • Other recognized sports programs

Arts and Culture

  • Music lessons
  • Dance programs
  • Theatre programs
  • Visual arts programs
  • Cultural activities

Clubs and Youth Development

  • 4-H
  • Girl Guides
  • Scouts
  • Cadets
  • Chess clubs
  • Youth leadership programs

Educational and Skill-Building Activities

  • Training and certification programs for youth
  • Educational camps
  • Skill development programs
  • Other approved structured learning opportunities

Funding may also be available to assist with eligible registration fees, participation fees, membership fees, required basic equipment, and transportation costs associated with participation in an approved activity.

Required Documentation
Applicants may be asked to provide:

  • A completed application form.
  • Proof of Lanark County residency.
  • Identification for the child or youth and the applicant.
  • Verification of household income.
  • Verification of assets.
  • Program registration information.
  • An invoice, fee schedule, or registration statement showing costs.
  • Information regarding other funding sources, if applicable.
  • Any additional documentation required to confirm eligibility or process payment.

Applications will be reviewed for approval once all required documentation has been received.

Program Guidelines

  • Payments are issued directly to the program provider or organization.
  • Reimbursements to families are not available.
  • Approved funding amounts may vary based on individual circumstances and program guidelines.
  • Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure assistance is provided fairly, consistently, and responsibly.

How To Apply

  • Bring all required supporting documentation to your appointment.
  • Complete and submit your application at your local Social Services office.
  • County staff will review your application with you and confirm your eligibility.
