Lanark County and the Town of Smiths Falls are undertaking the Rural Transit Feasibility Study to explore the suitability of introducing new public transit and transportation services. Arcadis is the technical consultant undertaking the Transit Feasibility Study alongside the County and the Town.

During this second phase of this study, we are asking the community about the suitability of on-demand public transit as a way to enhance travel options across the region. Your input will help us develop an on-demand transit service design that meets the travel needs you shared with us in the study’s first phase.

On-Demand Transit Support

The County of Lanark and the Town of Smiths Falls are considering on-demand transit as a way to improve the mobility choices available to residents. On-demand transit is an alternative form of providing transit service, where vehicle routes and schedules are determined by trip requests from passengers, as opposed to fixed route transit where transit service has a predetermined route and schedule. On-demand transit services can use vehicles of all sizes including sedans, minivans and vans, shuttle or cutaway buses, and standard transit buses.
