Portable Housing Benefit
A portable housing benefit (PHB) is a monthly benefit paid directly to eligible low-income households to bridge the gap between affordable rent (roughly 30% of income) and some or all of average market rent.
Lanark PHB Accessibility
The Lanark PHB-A is portable anywhere in Lanark County.
Who is eligible
Applicants must:
- be on the Lanark County Centralized Wait List or eligible to be on the wait list
- reside in Lanark County
- not be receiving rent-geared-to-income (RGI), another portable housing benefit, a housing allowance, rent supplement or other housing benefit
- require a ground floor or accessible unit with a doctor letter stating the requirement
The benefit amount is calculated based on average monthly rent and household income. The average market rent in Lanark County is:

Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB)
The Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB) is portable anywhere in Ontario.
Who is eligible
Applicants must:
- be on the Lanark County Centralized Wait List or eligible to be on the wait list
- not be receiving rent-geared-to-income (RGI), the Lanark PHB-A, a housing allowance, rent supplement or other housing benefit
- not be a homeowner
Priority for the COHB is given to applicants who are:
- homeless or at risk of homelessness
- people with disabilities
- survivors of domestic violence or human trafficking
- Indigenous people
- seniors
How to apply
Contact Housing Services at 613-267-4200 - applications are completed over the phone. If you are deemed eligible for COHB, you may access money towards first and last months’ rent by providing a signed lease.
